My Event Impact: The tool that democratizes the measurement of events' environmental impact
The transition to sustainable event management often requires complex and costly impact assessments. To overcome this barrier, Protect Our Winters (POW) France has developed My Event Impact, a free and accessible online tool. By providing a quick diagnosis and clear areas for improvement, the initiative aims to promote best practices across the industry. This project, which promotes a sustainable approach without complexity, is a nominee in the Environmental Initiative of the Year category at the Trail Running Awards.
The diagnosis: Making environmental analysis accessible
My Event Impact was born out of the observation that most organizers, particularly those managing small to medium-sized events, do not have the resources necessary to carry out comprehensive impact assessments. The POW France tool seeks to provide this essential first step in encouraging the adoption of more responsible practices.
The assessment is based on ten key pillars (transportation, waste, energy, biodiversity, solidarity & inclusion, etc.) and relies on a simplified declarative analysis. The goal is to provide an easy entry point to sustainability, regardless of the size or purpose of the event.
Innovation: From declarative analysis to courses of action
The innovation of My Event Impact lies in its ease of use and the immediate usability of the results.
Simplicity and pedagogy
The tool provides a comprehensive diagnosis in record time. The results, which are accompanied by a progress index, are designed to be educational: they highlight priority areas for improvement and promote a process of continuous improvement. The tool thus encourages organizers to save and share their results, creating a ripple effect within the community.
B2B utility
The approach is welcomed by organizers of major events, who find it provides a structured framework:
Mont Blanc Marathon: The analysis clearly identified priority areas for refinement of their mobility and environmental protection plan.
Ultra Spirit: The study was crucial in measuring the environmental and social impact of the event and identifying areas where improvements needed to be made for future editions.
As Carline D’Haene, co-organizer of Ultra Spirit, points out, this tool allows us to "target the areas where we were least effective so that we can implement improvements."
Impact and industry recognition
Since its launch, the tool has seen significant traffic, demonstrating strong market demand for simple, free assessment solutions.
By identifying concrete levers for action (transportation, waste, energy), My Event Impact enables organizers to tangibly reduce their footprint while remaining true to their purpose.
This ability to structure industry action plans by creating a virtuous circle positions the POW France initiative as a key player in the ecological transition of sport.
