Ombraz Refugio: Branchless innovation for comfort and performance

The design of traditional sports eyewear often poses recurring problems, particularly in terms of slippage, pressure and fragility. With Refugio, the Ombraz brand has taken up this challenge by eliminating the temples and replacing them with a cord system. This reinvention of a classic piece of equipment, with its emphasis on comfort on the move, positions the Ombraz Refugio as a notable contender for this year's Trail Running Awards.

The Ombraz mechanism: A cord for a dynamic fit

The Refugio's central innovation lies in the replacement of conventional temples by an adjustable cord made from recycled Japanese nylon. This patented mechanism offers several functional advantages:

  • Stability and comfort: the cord system eliminates pressure points behind the ears and on the head, adapting to different morphologies while maintaining a stable fit, even during intense activity.

  • Compatibility: The temples-free design allows the glasses to be worn naturally under hats, helmets or communication systems, enhancing their versatility.

  • Durability and storage: The absence of hinges, screws and temples reduces breaking points and allows the glasses to be stored flat.

The TR-90 thermoplastic frame contributes to a minimalist total weight of just 27 grams.

Optical precision and certified safety

Refugio makes no compromises when it comes to visual protection. They are equipped with mirrored Zeiss lenses, offering 100% protection against UVA/UVB rays.

The optics feature hardened coatings to resist scratches and oleophobic layers to repel fingerprints and sweat. What's more, the goggles are handmade in Italy and meet ANSI Z87.1 safety standards, attesting to their robustness in demanding conditions.

Optimized design based on field feedback

Refugio's full-shield geometry has been specifically developed for high performance. The design has been refined thanks to feedback from professional athletes, guides and users.

  • Field of vision: the integral screen blocks peripheral light and has been optimized for helmet compatibility.

  • Ventilation: the nose pads have been redesigned to improve ventilation, reducing fogging and preventing sweat marks from reaching the lens.

Environmental commitment and sustainability

Ombraz integrates an eco-responsible dimension into its offer. For every pair of Refugio sold, the company commits to planting 20 mangrove trees, offsetting 1,713 times the carbon footprint generated by production and shipping. The use of recycled nylon cord also contributes to the sustainability effort.
