norda 005: A trail running shoe combining lightness and technical performance
The development of trail running equipment often focuses on finding the optimal balance between weight and durability. With its new model, the norda 005 offers a technical solution aimed at reconciling these properties. This development, based on the integration of cutting-edge materials, positions the norda 005 among this year's Trail Running Awards nominees.
Dyneema integration and weight performance
The norda 005 has a claimed weight of 214g (men's size 8.5 / EU 42), making it one of the lightest options on the current market. This performance is intrinsically linked to the choice of materials used in its construction.
Its upper is crafted from Dyneema®, a fiber recognized in the industry for its strength-to-weight ratio (reported to be 15 times stronger than steel at an equivalent weight). The use of this material aims to provide the runner with significant protection and enhanced breathability while ensuring product longevity on rugged terrain. The laces are also made of Dyneema, reinforcing the technical consistency of the overall design.
Midsole: Arnitel for durable cushioning
The challenge of cushioning in lightweight running shoes often lies in the rapid degradation of foams. To address this, the norda 005 features a midsole composed of 99% pure Arnitel.
This thermoplastic material is designed to maintain cushioning properties and energy return over a longer period than traditional foams (EVA or PEBA), thereby helping to extend the functional lifespan of the shoe.
Cutting-edge grip with Vibram®
When it comes to traction, norda relies on a high-level partnership. The outsole is equipped with Vibram® Megagrip Elite rubber.
Presented as the most grippy compound in Vibram's catalog, this is exclusively available on this model for now. The goal is to ensure reliable traction across a variety of surfaces, particularly wet and technical terrain, which is essential for performance running.
Design and visibility
The norda 005 features a minimalist aesthetic, characteristic of the brand. Safety is addressed by the integration of 3M 360-degree reflective elements, ensuring the runner's visibility during night events or training sessions.
